You go into one client's operation, build the agent system that carries it, and stay until it runs on its own. Umbra Studio is an applied-AI agency. Most generative-AI pilots a company starts — around 95% — never reach a measurable return, because they're generic: they live in a presentation and never touch the real operation. Our method, Lighthouse, exists to be the 5% that gets there: agent systems designed, built and put to work inside the client's business, still running after we hand off.
This role is how that happens. You work with one client at a time, reconstruct how their operation actually runs, define the tests that decide what "good" means — in house we call them evals — build the agent system, and stay until it runs on its own in production. Engineer, consultant and operator at the same time.
The name comes from Palantir, which used it for engineers who work inside the client's operation instead of against a document somebody else wrote. That's exactly it: you're in the room, closing the distance between what the model can do and what the work needs.
You would own the engagement end to end and shape the method as much as you execute it. Every system you deliver makes the next one cheaper, because the patterns and tests you write down are where the following project starts.

- Be the lead engineer on a client project, from the first meeting to the handoff.
- Reconstruct how the operation actually works, and set the baseline: the before numbers the system gets measured against.
- Design the agent system and the tests that define success — before the first line is written.
- Deploy in stages — watching without touching, then on part of the volume, then on its own — with cost and quality measured from day one.
- Own the handoff and the decision log, and turn each project into patterns, tooling and tests the next one starts from.

What you need to bringQué necesitas traer
- Five years of software engineering, with Python in production.
- Having taken a system from day one to production, and kept it alive afterwards.
- Having built with language models in production: tool use, orchestration, pulling in context, and output in a fixed format.
- Working English and Spanish (clients are Latin American; the tooling is in English).
- Being able to sit with a client in person when the project asks for it, in San Salvador, Mexico City or Bogotá.
- A degree in Computer Science, Engineering or a related technical field — or equivalent experience, which counts the same.

- Claude Certified Architect (CCAR-F or CCAR-P), or an equivalent applied-AI certification.
- Having worked with automated quality tests for models — the ones that decide what reaches production and what stays out.
- Having operated services in production: processes that run on their own, scheduled jobs, relational databases, and open tool protocols for agents (MCP).
- Having measured cost and quality per run, and tuned a system against those numbers.
- Having worked facing the client: understanding their operation, deciding what's in and what's out, and walking the change through with the people who live it.
- Having turned an undocumented manual process into a specification another engineer can build against.
- Being able to work with little supervision, and to leave documentation the next person can pick up.
